In this I'm going to
discuss talent qualities that will give you the edge as a graphic designer. Now
like with
the psychological skills
these qualities can give you a serious edge as a designer. These are qualities
that make you stand out. These are qualities that make you who you are and
cannot be taught only encouraged.
So, first is:
Imagination. The creative gift we are all blessed with unmeasurable and unique
in us all. Imagination is your creative power, your character, your edge.
Design starts with the creative sparks of the imagination You will need to feed
your imagination with life experience and knowledge.
Curiosity. Design
involves discovery inspiration can lay around any corner or behind any wall.
Holding onto your youthful curiosity and excitement for all things is a virtue.
Don't get bored get curious.
Open mindedness. The
more you open your mind to receive every possible source of inspiration the
more interesting your imagination will be. Keeping an open mind will help you
make better sense of the world to communicate this in your work.
Passion. Now everyone
alive has ideas it's not about ideas it's about making ideas happen. Everyone
has a different level of passion the more passionate you are the more you push
yourself to learn, to research, to experiment and discover, to never give up,
to do whatever it takes to finish your project and make that idea happen.
Conceptual thinking.
People always ask me: How do I stand out? How do I become a good designer?
Well one answer is to
try and use your imagination to think different. As a designer you are a
problem solver. You are a visual inventor. Use your imagination to think
conceptually. Use your imagination to explore and turn your discoveries into
interesting work. Graphic design is not only about making fantastic looking
visuals but also about being able to generate unique and exciting idea. Great
ideas will get you
far in the industry. The
better your ability to use your imagination and think outside the box, the more
interesting and original your work can be and that's what will get you noticed
Problem solving. Graphic
design can be extremely challenging require a lot of research, understanding,
thinking and development. You will have to discover creative opportunities
everywhere and create exciting visual solutions to challenging design briefs.
Harnessing creativity. A
lot of graphic design work will need to be practical and functional; you will
not always have the creative freedom to do whatever you want. If you are an
extremely passionate artistically creative person you will need to be able to
control it, have good judgment and discipline to produce a result that works
best for the brief. You will need to bring your imagination to life and wield
your creativity using a variety of creative tools. It's through practice that
you can discover your skills and nurture your talents. The savvier experienced
and skilled you are at using creative tools the better you can craft your ideas
and bring them to life.
So those are some of the
talent qualities that will give you an edge as a graphic designer.
